Our volunteer attorneys provide critical help with landlord-tenant conflicts, working to de-escalate disputes and avoid unnecessary litigation. Attorneys work with clients to explain their rights and communicate with opposing parties to resolve disputes. Volunteers also staff a virtual help desk in the Kane County Eviction Court, providing legal information and helping litigants to understand their rights.

Tenants with prior evictions now have the opportunity to seal these past court hearings, preventing a future landlord from seeing them, which could be the difference between securing or being denied housing. Volunteers gather all necessary information, draft legal documents, and instruct clients on how they then can file the petition on their own.
