Pro Bono Week Events in Detail
Incarcerated Survivors Project Virtual Training
(10/25 10am-12pm)
Join us over ZOOM to learn about how to talk with incarcerated domestic violence survivors as they handle their family law issues and other non criminal matter while awaiting trial. This work takes only an hour or two of your time, but is so important for these clients.
Lawyers in the Classroom
(10/26 10am - 11am)
This is the first project PBN ever did and we are so excited to be starting it again! We will be working again with St Catherine St Lucy in Oak Park, a small parochial school whose families come mostly from the Austin community. We go into the 6th, 7th and 8th grade classrooms and teach about constitutional law, using lesson plans created by professional educators. If you have never done this project before, or want a refresher, join us next week on Thursday, October 13th at 11:00am over ZOOM where we will give you all the info you need!
Cook County Senior Clinic
(10/26 10am - 12pm)
At this virtual clinic, you will call a client over the phone, conduct an extensive legal intake and then forward the information to our partner agency for further work. If you are interested in this clinic, but have never done one before, email me Sheila Pont, who will connect you to the project manager and training materials.
DuPage Virtual Elder Law Clinic
(10/27 10am - 12pm)
Much like the clinic above, give an hour of your time to talk with a DuPage senior and help him or her understand the need for an advanced directive and/or will. Once you explain these documents, and gather all the necessary information, you will draft these documents, using the templates we provide. Email Sheila Pont for details and links to the recorded training.
CBF Pro Bono and Community Service Fair
(10/27 4:30 - 6:30)
If you work downtown, come visit us at the annual Chicago Bar Foundation Pro Bono and Community Service Fair at Kirkland & Ellis. We will be staffing a table and letting everyone know about all the amazing volunteer opportunities we have at PBN! For more information and to RSVP, click here and then email Sheila Pont so she can look out for you!
